2K Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Lead to Rescue Troubled Action Game Project Ethos

2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently developing the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Leadership Shift Comes After Lukewarm Reception

The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' disappointing unveiling last autumn.

Recently, 2K president a key figure notified team members about this organizational change through an internal memo, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had revealed the requirement for a clearer vision.

Ismailer expressed that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a renewed approach, aiming to address community desires.

Trend of Strategic Recruitment

This announcement mirrors a similar action taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock development group.

Here is the complete message from Ismailer's memo:

Team—

I know you all just wrapped up your town hall - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and creative developers we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re excited for that relationship to persist.”

Through your commitment and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s the game playtest was enlightening. It validated the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the need for a more distinct brand.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the criticism to consideration and overhauled the title with a renewed vision - one that’s positioned to deliver on its ambition to our audience.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS increases every day. To advance the incredible advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce the new hire as the latest Lead of the team. Following a period of discussions, he officially joins us on Monday, October 20.

Ben’s leadership and background in the PVP shooter space is considerable, having spent the last 15 years developing and leading some of the most recognizable series in gaming, including the acclaimed shooter, and lately, the battle royale hit.

Please join me in greeting him soon. We are all excited to continue seeing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the months to ahead.

Game Details and Concept

The upcoming game was unveiled in last year together with a community playtest. At the time, 31st Union portrayed the title as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an thrilling step forward on the category."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the game's pitch states. "Face the rivals with new abilities, stakes, and tests that shift every session. Do you withdraw carefully with your valuable rewards? Alternatively aim high, risk it all, and pray your squad can earn top ranking? The option is in your hands."

Project Ethos does not have an official launch window or platforms, but players can anticipate further news as creation advances.
